Our District Attorney's Office has been in the forefront of not only prosecution of offenders, but in crime prevention, elder financial abuse and neglect, consumer issues, gang and violent crime partnerships, juvenile justice issues, diversion programs and other initiatives to build stronger relationships with criminal justice agencies and the community that we serve. District Attorney Nola Foulston has met all the challenges for innovative and responsible programs designed to meet the needs of the contemporary criminal justice system and to engage and assist our community members.
 
The Office of the District Attorney, following all ethical and professional standards, continues to represent its citizens with fairness and impartiality in the administration of justice. District Attorney Nola Foulston is tough on crime and has demonstrated proven leadership skills in her office and in her community.

Criminal Justice Data reveals the following information regarding prosecution of offenders and conviction rates:

 

Prosecuted over 400 adult Gang Members

 

Prosecuted over 600 cases of domestic violence.

 

Prosecuted sex offenders for 700 sexual assaults

  

Prosecuted 3426 violent crimes against persons

 

Prosecuted 4984 crimes against property including Identity Theft

 

Prosecuted 3853 drug and alcohol crimes

 

Prosecuted 1675 DUI’s

 

 

With an average 90% conviction rate for all criminal cases for years 2006-2007 *

 *(conviction rate statistics are not generated until year-end*)

 

Community Programs:
 
The Consumer Fraud and Economic Crime Division with a new emphasis on the burdgeoning problems of Internet and Identity Fraud
 
The Elder Abuse Unit geared to assist our most respected senior citizens with issues of abuse and neglect as well as to investigate and prosecute rampant financial crimes against the elderly
 
The Financial Abuse Specialist Team developed to work hand in hand with state, local and federal criminal justice agencies and community organizations to identify, investigate and prosecute financial crimes, and to provide training, education and assistance to all our citizens including a focus on the elderly
 
The District Attorney also engages in partnership with many diverse law enforcement and community agencies including the Domestic Violence Coalition, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, the Sexual Assault Center, Law Enforcement Training, the Wichita Children's Home, the Sedgwick County Children's Advocacy Center, Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services (SRS). Each year the District Attorney sponsors a Community Awareness event during Victims' Rights Week to present all citizens the opportunity to interact with law enforcement and community service organizations and to obtain vital information about the assistance they can receive in Sedgwick County.
